Disc Drives

A disc drive is the part of the computer which reads programs and data from your magnetic disks. Data is information you give to your computer. Once the disk drive reads this data, it copies it into the computer 's memory so that it can be used by the computer.

Different Types of Disk Drives

Floppy Disk Drive is on  the outside of your computer. This is where you insert your floppy disc.

CD-ROM Drive is also found on the outside of your computer. It is where you insert your CD-Rom disc.

Zip Drive is also found on the outside of your computer. It is where you insert your zip disc.  It would take 100 floppy discs to hold the same amount of information or memory as a Zip Disc.

Hard Drive is found inside your computer and it stores and saves everything you put into the computer even after you turn it off. The hard drive is made of several nonflexible disks stacked together with recording heads.

The Disc Drive is an input device.
